RAISING FUNDS & FUN
The Social Responsibilities class of Ocean Tides Providence Campus teamed up with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the Newport Yachting Center to help raise funds for cancer research. An added benefit was the fun we raised for some Newport area senior citizens.
HOW DID WE DO IT?
Luckily we had a generous Providence based corporate sponsor (TEXTRON). They heard about our project and donated $300 to our efforts. The rest was up to us. We explained our project to the teachers and students at Providence Campus and asked for their help. The whole student body and staff were very supportive and we raised $130.
OUR RESULTS
We purchased 12 tickets to the fundraiser event ( a donation total of$ 420.00) to the
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The Social Responsibilities Class also gave 10 tickets away to the seniors at the Newport Housing Authority Senior Center. Josh Oswald (student) and Phil Solomon (Teacher and Sr. Staff at Providence Campus) attended the event as well. The seniors enjoyed a nice night of dinner and entertainment on the Newport Harbor. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society was very grateful for our contributions and we look forward to helping out in the upcoming fund raiser for 2006.
