History
Ocean Tides accepted the first three boys on August 8, 1975. In the beginning, the program was housed entirely at the Narragansett Campus. Over the years, four extension houses (group homes), a counseling center, and the Providence Campus of Ocean Tides School were added.
Ocean Tides provides many services for the youngsters and their families. The school provides a complete high school program that is accredited for both regular and special education by the state of Rhode Island. The social services department provides individual and family counseling as well as topical groups, parent groups, and aftercare services. The residential department at Narragansett and the extension houses provide care, supervision, and recreational activities outside school time.
Ocean Tides is recognized as one of the best child care facilities in Rhode Island by the Family Court. For hundreds of boys and their families, it has been a new beginning, a blessing, the thing that has made a difference. The success of the Ocean Tides program and its ability to accomplish so much good, has been made possible by the combined efforts of the Board of Trustees, the De La Salle Christian Brothers, the administrators, teachers, social service counselors, youth care workers, office staff, support staff, and many friends and benefactors.
