Overview

Ocean Tides is a residential / educational program founded in 1975 to meet the needs of young men who have been deemed by a state agency to be in need of residential placement and supervision.

The entire Ocean Tides Program is designed with the focus of attention on boys and their families which the program serves. From its inception, Ocean Tides has been dedicated to providing a coordinated treatment program for each young man. The entire program has as a basic premise that the life of each young man must be integrated in all its aspects.

Ocean Tides is a program flexible enough to meet the treatment needs of different youths and their families. It is a program that intends young people to face up to their shortcomings and needs, by providing a blend of direction, correction, negation and affirmation so that the youngster may re-enter his community's life at peace, and in stages that provide necessary supports while developing self sufficiency. The Ocean Tides Program ultimately hopes to increase the prospect for the young person's happiness and fulfillment.

The main campus of The Ocean Tides Program is located at Christian Brothers Center in Narragansett, Rhode Island. This facility includes administrative offices, residential living for the majority of the youngsters served, Social Services Counseling facilities and Ocean Tides School Narragansett Campus. Ocean Tides school has a Providence Campus day school that was developed to provide an educational transition opportunity for students completing the Ocean Tides residential program and for students referred by any school district in Rhode Island. It is an alternative high school for boys who have difficulty with the traditional structure and programming within their local high schools. There are four Extensions (community based group homes,) and a Service Center (family services and the diversionary program,) located in the greater Providence area and West Warwick.
