Narragansett Residential

Ocean Tides’ Narragansett Residential Program offers a ‘last alternative’ for at-risk youngsters who have been in legal difficulty on numerous occasions. Boys are accepted either directly from home as a condition of probation ordered by the Family Court, or they enter from the State Training School on "Temporary Community Placement." Each spends approximately one year with us, up to a maximum of 18 months, with the goal of changing negative behavior.

No more than 30 boys aged 13-17 are accepted into the Narragansett residential program at any one time. There are 23 staff members, including Social Services staff, providing around the clock supervision and counseling. They work in an integrated manner to provide each boy with a set of experiences that will allow him to return home and use new skills in problem solving with an increased sense of self worth. Programming includes:

  •  intensive recreational experiences.
  • small group workshops.
  • household responsibilities.
  • informal and formal counseling, family counseling.

Ocean Tides is CARF accredited for the following specific services: Residential Treatment and Mental Health (Juvenile Justice)

The Residential component of our program plays an important role in the total Treatment Plan, assuring responsibility for everyday living of the youngsters in the Narragansett facility. We work to create a warm atmosphere where youngsters will grow physically, emotionally and spiritually in an environment based on mutual concern, responsibility and trust.
